On May 15, 2018, the Kingston Democratic Committee voted to endorse Pat Strong to run as the Democratic candidate for State Senate District 46

Pat Strong

Pat Strong is a small business owner and parent who has spent the last 15 years helping homeowners, businesses and local governments save money by saving energy. She’s a business leader who has worked as a volunteer to demonstrate the power of the arts as an economic driver in upstate New York. Pat is the Democratic challenger to Sen. George Amedore in the 46th State Senate District.

A lifelong Democrat, Pat believes that the success of our communities ought to be measured by the support we provide to the most fragile members of it.  She believes health care is a human right; fair and equitable funding must be provided for both rural and urban schools; and she wants to lessen the burden of the property tax on homeowners. When elected, she will join efforts to find more holistic solutions to the opioid epidemic that is tearing at the fabric of our communities.

Professional background

Pat has made Ulster County her home since 1983. After a decade as a newspaper reporter and editor, she began working as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Energy in 1998, supporting businesses that were early proponents of solar, wind and energy efficiency.  In 2003, she began working as a contractor to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), helping upstate homeowners, local governments and businesses access resources to make their buildings more energy efficient and more affordable.

Pat has provided jobs to more than two dozen people since forming her own company in 2006. In 2009, Pat co-founded the Business Alliance of Kingston. For the past five years, she and a host of other volunteers have produced Made In Kingston, a showcase of arts businesses in New York’s first capital. Made In Kingston raises money for a scholarship that goes to a deserving Kingston High School student.

Pat is a graduate of Northeastern University. She and her husband Lester Strong have five adult children, one terrific grandson and a rescue dog named Lola.
